Caterpillar’s fleet management application was designed as part of the company’s World Usability Day competition. Simple spreadsheets had been used by Asset Managers and Project Managers in the past to document and distribute equipment. This is a time-consuming process that isn’t always correct. My team and I were given a design system to work with as well as a short deadline. We created the screens in Figma and were tested by project managers that are CAT customers.

The current users use Excel spreadsheets; this is a time-consuming process that is prone to mistakes.

The project and asset managers need a centralized location to control their assets, schedule maintenance, and reallocate assets to new projects.
